Westward Oregon Pinot Noir Cask American Single Malt Whiskey 750ml Bottle

The term “American whiskey” is not a term of endearment for me, as it typically refers to bourbon (of which I am not a fan). Finally, American distillers are learning from the master (Scotland) how to make a great whisky (no “e” in single malt scotch-style whisky – only in corn/rye whiskeys of USA/Canada). Yes, American distillers are finally catching-on, and they’re catching-up fast. Today’s dram is from Oregon, distilled from Oregon barley, aged in American white oak casks, and finished in Pinot Noir casks (some good ones of those in Oregon as well). This is very smooth with an oily mouthfeel, and great legs, that delivers apricots, apricots, apricots, yum, yum, yum. It pairs well with a really dark chocolate (86% is my personal favorite). If they keep turning-out whiskies (not whiskeys) like this, watch-out Scotland. Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.
